Sentencing date set for former Mayor Cannon

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon will be sentenced on Sept. 25 on corruption charges.

SPECIAL SECTION: Patrick Cannon

He was arrested and resigned as mayor six months ago and faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.

Over the past few months, probation officials have been conducting a pre-sentence investigation where they dug deeper into his past.

That report will end with a recommendation to the federal court judge who will sentence him.

Cannon plead guilty back in June and admitted to using his political power to put certain development projects on the fast track in exchange for money.
