• Sheriff: Man arrested in connection with child abuse report

    BURKE COUNTY, N.C. - A man was arrested Friday after reports of possible child abuse in Burke County, according to a news release.

    Police arrested Justin Dean Harriman of Morganton and charged him with misdemeanor child abuse. Burke County Department of Social Services received the report in August 2013. DSS notified the Burke County Sheriff's Office.

    An investigation was conducted. Deputies said an 11-year-old was removed from the residence and Harriman was interviewed in connection with the investigation.

    Harriman was held under a $5,000 secured bond. His court date is Oct. 14.
