Sheriff's office ups reward in cold case killing

CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — Cabarrus County officers increased the reward for tips leading to the arrest and conviction of the men responsible for killing a restaurant worker three years ago.

In August 2009, Cabarrus County sheriff's deputies said two men armed with an assault rifle entered Capriccio's restaurant near Harrisburg and demanded money.

The sheriff said Lalo Reyes Darragon struggled with the robbers and was shot and killed.

The case had gone cold.

The nearby Brantley Oaks neighborhood has continued to pitch in to increase the reward money.

The sheriff added more money from the office's cold case fund.

The reward is up to $8,000.
