Shoppers scared after man stabbed at shopping complex

SHELBY — Shoppers at Highland Festival Plaza in Shelby are scared after hearing about a bloody attack that happened at the complex Monday morning.

A man working on the air conditioning unit in the back of the Dollar Tree Marion Street was stabbed with a knife when someone tried to rob him.

Shelby Police say around 10 a.m. Monday the victim, David Young, was repairing the air conditioning unit behind the complex.

They say as he was walking down the ladder a man wearing a hoodie walked up to him and demanded money.  They say when Young told him he didn't have any, the suspect slashed him twice with a razor blade and ran away.

The victim screamed for help.

Workers and shoppers are afraid he could strike again.

"Oh my God it could've been us," said assistant store manager Holly Jackson.

Young was transported to the hospital and is now recovering.

Police say the suspect is a white or light skinned man, 6 feet tall with a long brown beard and possible dreads in his hair.

He was last seen wearing a black top with a hoodie and dark colored pants.

If you see him, you're asked to contact Shelby police.
