Soaking rains from Tropical Depression Bertha bring widespread local damage

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Damage from the storm Wednesday has been widespread after all-day downpours that led to a lot of flash flooding and downed trees.

In north Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police had to put up barricades on Jeff Adams Drive after it flooded. Channel 9 could see a car submerged, but it didn’t look like anyone was inside it.

Channel 9 cameras also caught a water rescue in progress in Midwood. A car could be seen stuck in the water on Masonic Drive near Central Avenue. Firefighters were able to get the driver out.

Several other local streams and creeks could be seen overflowing, such as Little Sugar Creek Greenway, where there was high water.
