Some popular apps send sensitive data to Facebook without consent, report says

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Some of the apps on your phone could be sending your private information right to Facebook.

From real estate apps to heart monitors and pregnancy trackers, the Wall Street Journal reports at least 11 popular apps are sending your sensitive data to Facebook without your consent.

They say an analytics tool called "App Events" allows app developers to record user activity and report it back to Facebook, even if you don't have an account.

APP LIST:

  • Instant Heart Rate: HR Monitor
  • FLO Health Inc.'s Flo Period and Ovulation Tracker (They have recently announced they will no longer send private information.)
  • Realtor.com
  • BetterMe: Weight Loss Workouts
  • Breethe

Facebook says those app developers should be clear with their users about what they share.

Facebook has been under fire for privacy issues for several years.

This week, a committee of lawmakers in the United Kingdom alleged Facebook intentionally violated your personal information.

Last month, Facebook mistakenly exposed the private photos of seven million users.
