South Carolina Health Department reports state's 1st vaping death

SOUTH CAROLINA — South Carolina is reporting the state's first vaping related death.

The Health Department says the person was from upstate South Carolina and was older than 65. The victim was recently diagnosed with a lung injury associated with vaping before dying.

The CDC is asking everyone to stop using vaping products.

The CDC is reporting almost 2,300 people suffered lung damage from vaping. Officials said 48 people have died from vaping related illnesses.

Fort Mill teen Logan Dillard was hospitalized in September because of vaping.

Two Davidson professors are studying the health effects of e-cig flavorings. National studies point to Vitamin E Acetate as the main reason for illnesses and deaths, but the professors say the flavorings themselves are harmful.
