South Charlotte outlet mall to open in August

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Premium Outlets in Steele Creek is about five months away from opening and developers recently met with residents to discuss the $100 million project.

The outlet mall will feature 90 name brand and designer stores on 80 acres and is slated to open in August.

The investment is set to bring more than 900 jobs to the area and include $8 million worth of road improvements.

For Leigh Burns, the changes are bittersweet. She said she reached a deal with the developer to move out of her home of 28 years, since it's too close to the project.

"That's life. You just got to deal with it," she said.

Still, Burns welcomes the development in the area at Interstate 485 and Steele Creek Road, which is also expected to include a new hotel, gas station and at least two restaurants.

The project is a partnership between Tanger Factory Outlet Centers and Simon Property Group, and is set to open by August.
