Downpours expected to hit Charlotte Thursday evening

Downpours are expected to hit Charlotte Thursday evening.

As the sun fought through the clouds along with a cold front now in the mountains, thunderstorm chances will rise through Thursday evening.

Gusty winds, heavy rain and lightning are the main threats, though some hail will be possible as well in the stronger storms.

Storms should die out pretty quickly toward sunset.

With the front to the South/East from Friday through the weekend, thunderstorm chances drop quite a bit.

The tradeoff is more sunshine which means more warmth, resulting in both weekend days in the 90s.

By the middle/end of next week another front moves through and much like July 4 weekend, unusually comfy air will push in.
