LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies arrested two men who led them on a chase and then fired a shot at law enforcement, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Brandon Houser and the driver, Joey Smith, both 22, drove through a field and hit a tree, according to the release.

The deputy saw a muzzle flash and heard a gunshot before the duo fled and got away.
Deputies executed a search warrant on Bynum Road in Lincolnton. Houser fled on foot and was captured.
Smith was arrested at the home on Bynum Road.
Smith was charged with one felony count each of operating a vehicle while fleeing to elude arrest, resist, delay and obstruct a public officer, assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm, possession of cocaine, possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana and one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Smith was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $49,000 secured bond.
Houser was charged with one felony count each of assault with a firearm on a law enforcement officer, possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture Schedule VI and one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the jail under a $52,000 secured bond.
