Swarm of bees grounds plane in Charlotte for more than 2 hours

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A swarm of bees delayed a flight for more than two hours at Charlotte Douglas Airport.

US Airways Flight 2690 from Charlotte to Indianapolis was scheduled to depart at 1:15 p.m. was delayed after a swarm of bees hovered around the nose of the plane.

Passenger Jackson Gardner told Channel 9 the plane was delayed because the truck that is used to back up the plane was overcome by the bees.

The flight crew told passengers a beekeeper was called to get rid of the swarm.

Passengers were held on the plane because some were allergic to bees. 

The flight crew called in a paramedic to be on standby.

Gardner told Channel 9 that US Airways has offered all passengers $100 flight vouchers for a future flight.

About 70 people were on board the plane.  The plane did take off for Indianapolis around 4 p.m.

The plane arrived in Indianapolis at 5:10 p.m.
