CATAWBA CO. — Tuesday a Catawba grand jury indicted 18-year-old David Engelmann, of Hickory, on charges of felony death by vehicle and driving while impaired.
Englemann was driving a Subaru Forester in August when he allegedly ran off the road, overcorrected and flipped the vehicle. Hickory High School classmate Jay Brian Robertson II, 17, was ejected from the vehicle through its open sunroof. He died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
Investigation by Hickory Police Department revealed that Engelmann's blood alcohol level was .09.
"This is a very tragic case for all involved," District Attorney David Learner said.
In May a grand jury declined to indict Englemann on a felony death by vehicle charge.
