Investigators asking witnesses to come forward after teen shot near Lancaster park

LANCASTER, S.C. — A teenager was seriously injured after being shot during a fight Wednesday near a Lancaster park, according to police.

Deputies said they were called to the dead end of Elliott Street around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

They said all the people involved took off, but deputies located shell casings and blood in the parking lot.

They said, at the same time, they were advised a 16-year-old male showed up at the hospital with two gunshot wounds.

Deputies said they learned 15 to 20 people gathered in the parking lot on Elliott Street to either watch or participate in a fight.

They said the victim fought with someone in the parking lot and, at some point, a man started shooting. That’s when the 16-year-old was hit by gunfire.

“There were a lot of people out there when this occurred, and we are not getting a whole lot of cooperation from witnesses,” Lancaster County Sheriff Barry Faile said in a statement. “I urge anyone with information about this incident to do the right thing and come forward. As a community, it is unacceptable to remain silent and tolerate this type of criminal behavior.”

Anyone with information about this crime should call the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office at (803) 283-3388 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
