UNION CO., N.C.,None - North Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed a teenager died and four others were injured after a single-vehicle accident in Union County Friday night.

A silver pickup truck rolled several times on Monroe-Weddington Road near Antioch Church Road in Weddington. Troopers said 17-year-old, Riley Layman from Matthews, died on scene after he was thrown from the truck and trapped underneath it.

When Eyewitness News arrived on the scene shortly after 7 p.m. Friday, the truck was still upside-down.

Four other Weddington High School students were also riding in the truck and sustained injuries from the accident, according to the Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the driver of the truck, Robert Wayne Cook III, 17, lost control and the truck flipped several times. Cook and two other female passengers, Emily Aran Leonard, 15, and Julia Kelly, 15, were not wearing their seatbelts and were all thrown from the truck when it crashed.

One backseat passenger, Marisa Nicole Marchese,16, of Indian Trail, was wearing her seatbelt and treated for minor injuries.

All four passengers were transported to CMC-Main for treatment but are expected to be okay.

A family who heard the news rushed to see if they could help.

"I wanted to meet my son out here and comfort him. He's good friends with the boy that was killed," said George Collins.

Troopers said alcohol was not a factor and are still investigating the cause of the accident.
