‘Things are always changing’: 2 sisters pivot their business to stay afloat during pandemic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — For more than 30 years, the restaurant Carpe Diem was a staple in Charlotte, but like so many businesses, when the pandemic hit, the owners had to make the tough decision to shut down.

But by closing one door, the owners who are sisters, opened a new one.

They quickly pivoted to survive in the pandemic and opened a grocery store.

“By the time we weighed all those decisions, it seemed like are we going to work hard to lose money or are we just going to lose money?” said Bonnie Warford.
