Thousands of gifts to be donated to seniors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — On Wednesday thousands of gifts are being donated as a part of the Be a Santa to a Senior program that is organized by the Home Instead Senior Care office serving Mecklenburg County.

The event starts at noon Wednesday at the Dilworth Coffee Warehouse on Distribution Street.

The gifts will be distributed to hundreds of seniors by volunteers of Friendship Trays when they deliver meals in December to older adults in the area.

"Be a Santa to a Senior is more than just a gift-giving project," said Roberta Farnum, owner of Home Instead Senior Care.

"The program is designed to help stimulate human contact and social interaction for seniors who are unlikely to have guests during the holidays."
