Tree falls on apartment, displaces 30

CHARLOTTE — Thirty people, including six children, were forced to leave their homes after a tree fell onto the Hollis House Apartments overnight Friday.

The apartments are located on Weston Street in south Charlotte. Four units at the complex were damaged when the tree fell.

A resident Channel 9 spoke to said he did not know what was going on when a neighbor came yelling for them to get out.

"The fire department just came right here and just made everybody evacuate. We had to go stay at a Standard Stay and it was just crazy," said resident Jabarrie Dean.

No one was hurt when the tree came crashing down. The Red Cross is helping the families who were displaced.
