Trio of friends open brewery in Fort Mill

FORT MILL, S.C. — Fort Mill’s newest brewery has made its debut. 1873 Brewing — a nod to Fort Mill’s incorporation — opened Thursday.

Co-owners Chris LaRocque, Brad Rice and Scott Coffey — also head brewer — are behind that approximately 2,700-square-foot space. They’ve invested just under $600,000 into the venture.

The brewery is located at 415 Tom Hall St.

The longtime friends knew they wanted to start a business one day, and kicked around a number of ideas before landing on the brewery. Coffey, a longtime homebrewer, helped tip the scales with his craft brews.

“We’re good friends, but all play a key role in what will be the success of the brewery,” LaRocque says.
