Two local schools get 2020 National Blue Ribbon honor

Two local schools, one in Charlotte and the other in Fort Mill, are among 367 nationally to receive the 2020 National Blue Ribbon from the U.S. Department of Education.

“The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups,” said the U.S. Department of Education.

Piedmont IB Middle School, a public magnet school at 1241 E. 10th St. in Charlotte’s Belmont neighborhood, is the only school in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools district represented on the list.

Nation Ford High School at 1400 A O Jones Blvd. in Fort Mill also made this year’s list. That school, part of the Fort Mill School District, is located in York County, just across the state line.
