CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — One lane on eastbound Interstate 40 has reopened after two separate accidents closed the road near US-321 in Catawba County.
Officials say the first incident started just after 5:45 a.m. Monday at mile marker 123 near Hickory.
State Highway Patrol officials say the second accident involved a tractor-trailer and is leaking fuel.
A hazmat crew is responding to the scene.
Drivers are encouraged to take Exit 119 B (Henry River Road) to the I-40 Access Road. Then, continue on the I-40 Access Road to US-70 East.
On US-70 East, continue until you get to US-321 South and continue on this road to re-access I-40.
Officials expect the road to reopen around 10 a.m. Monday.
