Stanly County authorities search for man who allegedly shot into home

STANLY COUNTY, N.C. — Officials said two Stanly County schools were placed on lockdown Tuesday afternoon after a shot was fired into a nearby home.

The district said parents at South Stanly Middle School and South Stanly High School were notified about the lockdowns.

Police said it was a domestic situation where DeMecus R. Hooker Jr., 21, fired a shot into a mobile home on Cottonville Road.

Police said no one was hurt, and they were still searching for Hooker Tuesday afternoon.

Warrants issued for Hooker are for discharging a firearm into occupied property and communicating threats.

Officials said the schools were locked down as a precaution.

Stanly County Schools posted the below statement on its Facebook page:

"At this time SSMS and SSHS have been placed into lockdown under the advisement of the Sheriff's Department due to criminal activity in the community. We will continue to follow the advice of the authorities until the area is secure. There was no threat made to either school."
