Ukrainian child to receive 200 millionth Operation Christmas shoe box

CHARLOTTE — A special Christmas shoe box will make its way overseas this holiday season to a child in need.

Operation Christmas Child started 29 years ago with 11,000 shoe boxes boxed in Charlotte. The 200 millionth box will be hand delivered to a young girl in Ukraine who has been impacted by the war.

Elizabeth Groff will be the one to give her that special box. Groff received her own box when she was 11 years old.

Items that will be included in the shoe box include dolls, a yo-yo, a tiara, sunglasses and hygiene items.

Samaritan’s Purse aims to collect enough shoe boxes this season to reach 11 million children and pack 2.5 million boxes.
