• UNC grad student helps deliver baby in bus shelter

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - A mother and baby are both doing well after a graduate student delivered a baby in Chapel Hill bus shelter.

“Oh my God, the baby was just born. The baby is here,” said a 911 caller.

“She’s already had the baby?” the 911 operator asked.

“She’s had the baby.  It’s in her pants,” the caller said.

Emily Brewer was on her way to class Wednesday when she saw the woman going into labor.

The woman only speaks Spanish, and Brewer speaks only English.

But Brewer delivered the baby with the help of a 911 dispatcher.

“It was so, so beautiful to see this small child, that I saw come into the world,” Brewer said.

The baby’s mother said she is thinking of naming the baby Emily after the woman who helped her.
