Police: USC student shot near campus

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A student at the University of South Carolina is in critical condition after getting shot near campus.

Police say Michael Smith fired into a group of people early Sunday morning and hit a woman.

Police have not yet released her name.

Investigators believe a fight earlier in the evening could have led to the shooting.

Smith is being held without bond on numerous felony charges.
