Officials said Brant Sexton, 21, turned himself in 11 days after the teenage victim told police about the incident that allegedly occurred over winter break.

According to court documents, police responded to a call from the victim at a local gas station, where she told officers a man sexually assaulted her in her home.

Officials said the incident happened on Dec. 30.

“Before the school district lets people come into the school like that, they should do a thorough background check on them,” said Melvin McCullough, whose children graduated from Rock Hill High School.

The district told Channel 9's news partners at The Herald that Sexton was approved through the district's mandatory volunteer screening process, which includes a criminal background check.

“Just making sure that anybody is going to be working around school-aged kids that they are who they say they are,” said parent Lakendra Robinson.

Sexton is out on bond and has been banned from volunteering at any school in the district pending investigation.
