INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. — Volunteers at Common Heart in Indian Trail packed more than 1,000 turkeys with all of the traditional sides in boxes for families in need this Thanksgiving.
The turkey giveaway is part of the 12th annual Great Turkey Countdown.
The goods were delivered to 1,000 families in Union County, Matthews and Mint Hill.
Keith Adams, the event's executive director, said his favorite part is seeing the reaction of those they serve.
“I remember one kid that we delivered to and the turkey was one-third the size he was. He grabbed it and started dancing. He was excited,” Adams said.
The turkeys were donated by about 160 people.
