Warrant: SC woman used saw to dismember remains

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. — (AP) A warrant says a Summerville woman used a saw to dismember her roommate's body before she put the parts into black trash bags.

Fifty-three-year-old Nancy Bentley was charged Thursday with desecration of human remains.

Police say 54-year-old Roy Allen Steward of Summerville had been dead for at least two days before his body was cut apart.

Police have not said how Steward died.

Police found the remains Tuesday in trash bags in the vehicle Bentley had been driving. Her vehicle had been towed following a traffic stop Saturday. But the trunk of the car was not checked until Tuesday.

Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet said Steward died Jan. 2. He had been reported as missing by his brother in Texas, who was unable to contact him.
