Water main break impacts hundreds in downtown Kannapolis

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Crews with the Kannapolis Public Works Department are working to repair a water main break in the town’s downtown near the Gem Theatre.

Officials said the waterline impacted in the Friday morning break is one of the oldest in the city.

Some customers may experience low water pressure or outages in the immediate vicinity of downtown. Officials said the affected area includes the stretch between First Street and Vance Avenue, First Street to U.S. 29 and Main Street from First Street to Vance Avenue.

Officials said the periods of low or no pressure increases the risk of backflow water and bacteria.

They’re advising customers who had no water or low pressure during the repairs to boil their water once service is restored. That includes water used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation.

Officials expect waterline repairs to take all day.
