What to expect from $10M indoor skydiving facility near Charlotte

CONCORD, N.C. — Charlotte’s first indoor skydiving facility is now open.

Austin, Texas-based iFLY has invested roughly $10 million into that 5,300-square-foot building, says Trevor Thompson, vice president of new tunnel openings.

This is iFLY’s first location in the Carolinas. Thompson says the Charlotte market can support the premium attraction with its demographic base and solid economy.

It is located at 7840 Lyles Lane in Concord, near Concord Mills.

The company aims to “deliver the dream of flight to everyone,” Thompson says.

At the heart of the concept is iFLY’s vertical wind tunnel. It has been designed to replicate the free-fall experience of skydiving -- though flights take place solo as opposed to tandem with an instructor as with initial skydives.
