Why Charlotte gets a dismal ranking on transit

To be sure, the Queen City is pouring substantial resources into improving and expanding public transportation in the region, but there’s still much to be desired, according to a recent ranking from WalletHub.

Charlotte comes in at No. 97 out of 100 cities included on the website’s list of “2019’s Cities with the Best & Worst Public Transportation.”

To determine its ranking, WalletHub evaluated each city on 17 metrics related to three key dimensions: accessibility and convenience; safety and reliability; and public transit resources. Each city’s weighted average across those metrics was used to calculate its overall score.

While Charlotte received a middling rank, at No. 53 out of 100, for accessibility and convenience, poor placement on safety and reliability (No. 95) and resources (No. 88) didn’t help the city’s position.

With its overall score of 40.67, the QC trails other metros in North Carolina. Find out where those cities placed here.
