Witness: Man fired gun during Sonic robbery

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are looking for a man police said robbed a north Charlotte restaurant and fired shots at a customer.

The Violent Criminal Apprehension Team said Brandon McInnis is the third suspect in an armed robbery at the Sonic America’s Drive-In on Mount-Holly Huntersville Road.

A bail bondsman who was pulling through the drive-thru at the time of the robbery told Channel 9 a clerk asked over the intercom to call police.

Mark Derr said he pulled up and tried to follow the robber but one of them fired a gun at him. McInnis was charged and sentenced on multiple robbery counts in 2007 and was released in 2012.

Since then he's been arrested for resisting an officer and parole violation. Police believe McInnis may have fled to the Miami area.
