BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — A Morganton woman is accused of embezzling $26,119 from a nonprofit that helps reduce preventable cesarean sections through a program to improve the health of mothers and children.
Mychel Pendley Hefner, 39, is a former treasurer for the International Cesarean Network.
The organization went to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office on Friday and told officials Hefner was misusing funds.
Hefner admitted the crime to authorities and said that she was trying to pay some of the money back.
Hefner was charged with felonious embezzlement of property.
