Woman carrying toddler robbed in University City

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A mother in University City said she was putting her 2-year-old toddler in her car seat when someone walked up behind her and robbed her in the parking lot of Northlake Apartments.

The victim, who did not want to be identified, told Eyewitness News reporter Glenn Counts she was praying her daughter would stay asleep during the robbery, which happened at about 6:45 a.m. Tuesday.

"I had her in my arms, and I had my pocketbook on my shoulder, and she was sleeping," the woman said.

The 38-year-old woman said she was about to secure her daughter to a car seat when she heard a voice.

"Somebody (said), ‘Give me your bag,’ and I just froze, and it felt like -- I didn't see a gun, but it felt like a gun or something poking me," she said.

The woman didn’t want to make a sudden move that could wake her child.

"I was hoping she wouldn't wake up, because if she woke up, it might have startled him, and she didn't, thank God because she is normally a light sleeper," she said.

The robber stole her purse and rent money.

There have been no arrests.
