Woman reveals strategy after winning $333K lottery jackpot

Cash 5 ticket

RALEIGH — Patsy Avery, of Midland, won a $332,952 Cash 5 lottery jackpot on Sunday after purchasing her ticket at Jerry’s One Stop in Iron Station, officials with the N.C. Education Lottery announced.

Avery’s winning ticket matched all five numbers, a feat with odds of 1 in 962,598. She claimed her prize on Tuesday at lottery headquarters, taking home $238,893 after taxes.

“I don’t dream very often but I had a dream I would win the lottery,” Avery said. “When I dream, it usually comes true.”

Avery, a grandmother of four, explained her strategy for playing the lottery involves buying tickets from multiple stores.

“I pick a bunch of different stores and buy tickets at each one,” she said. “I probably stop at 10 different stores.”

Avery mentioned that she has been playing her same numbers for a long time.

For now, Avery plans to save her winnings, as she has not yet decided how to spend them.
