Woman, two dogs die in Lenoir house fire, officials say

LENOIR, N.C. — A woman is dead after her home caught on fire in Lenoir on Monday, according to the Lenoir Fire Department.

Firefighters said when they arrived at the home on Central Drive flames were already coming out of the windows.

Several neighbors tried to reach the woman, but the flames and heat were too much, firefighters said.

“Very kind woman, very kind,” said Roderick Reece, one of her neighbors. “She loved everybody. She always watched after everybody’s houses around here.”

Investigators have not released the name of the woman who died. They said two dogs were also killed in the blaze.

Fire officials will work to determine the cause of the midday fire. Investigators said the fire possible started in the garage and spread to the residence.
