Worker shortage creates ‘golden opportunity’ for those traditionally underemployed

CHARLOTTE — Channel 9 has been reporting on the worker shortage across the Carolinas for weeks, but some workforce experts say this is a golden opportunity for people who are traditionally underemployed -- including older workers, teenagers, people with disabilities and people who have been incarcerated.

Channel 9 anchor Brittney Johnson spoke to the director of Mecklenburg County Jail’s Adult Programs. It’s his job to train people for work once they’re released.

He said employers are calling, ready to give more people a second chance.
