Wrong-way driver dies in Brookshire wreck

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An early-morning car wreck on the Brookshire Freeway left one man dead and another with minor injuries. Police said the accident happened on the inner loop near North Davidson Street about 3:30 a.m.

They said Corey Rodriguez Lee, 36, died after his Honda Civic ran into a 2001 Dodge Caravan. Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are trying to figure out how Lee ended up driving the wrong way on the Brookshire Freeway.

According to police, the driver of the Dodge Caravan saw the Honda and attempted to avoid the crash, but he wasn’t able to do so, resulting in a head-on collision. It’s not clear whether speed or impairment were factors in the accident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective R.C. Gormican at 704-432-2169 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
