Deputies: Couple left infant in car while trespassing at Carowinds

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A couple was charged with neglecting an unattended baby Friday in a car in the Carowinds parking lot, according to York County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were dispatched to Carowinds in reference to a suspicious vehicle.  A security employee with Carowinds reported seeing a tan Chevrolet Silverado in the parking lot. When the employee approached the SUV, he told deputies he found an 8-month-old baby in the car.

The employee told deputies the child was crying and unattended. He then called police.

Deputies said it was 15 to 20 minutes before anyone returned to the vehicle.

Deputies said the parents of the child, Jason Lee and Francis Greene, had been trespassing on the Carowinds property around 8 p.m. during the off season.

Lee told deputies his girlfriend wanted to see the park so he came with her to see it. Lee said that they took their son, Charlemagne Xavier Lee, with them to see the park, but brought him back to the truck.

Greene told deputies she heard voices from God telling her to go to the park. Greene said that the voices that she thought were from God were actually extra-terrestrials, and that they wanted her to leave her body behind and come with them, York County Sheriff's Office reported.

Greene said that she decided against that because she wanted to stay with her family. Greene showed deputies her right hand, which had a 3 to 4 inch cut in the palm.

Greene said that she sliced her hand on the fence trying to get back out of the park. Greene was taken to Piedmont Medical Center. When she was released, she was taken into custody. She was charged with unlawful child neglect and trespassing.

Lee was arrested for unlawful child neglect and trespassing and taken to Fort Mill Police Department.

The child was placed into Emergency Protective Custody.
