Body of York County man missing since Mother’s Day found

FORT MILL, S.C. — The body of a missing York County man was found in Richburg, deputies confirmed Saturday.

Chester County deputies said he was found in the woods near the intersection of Old Richburg Road and Interstate 77. They did not share information on the circumstances of his death.

The York County Sheriff’s Office had been searching for Kevin Eby, 50, since he vanished on Mother’s Day.

Eby was diagnosed with Huntington’s disease, his wife said. It’s a neurological ailment which can impact thinking and judgment, she said.

She spoke to Channel 9 back on May 17.

“He’s been a quiet rock. I’m kind of the bigger personality of the two of us, but he’s the one that keeps us steady,” Maria Eby said.

She said that he was unable to get his medication, which may have prompted him to leave home.

“It’s a very intense mental battle that he’s been fighting so there were a few days he may have taken two pills instead of one,” Mary Eby said. “He was short and when he tried to get it refilled. They said, ‘We’re sorry. We can’t do anything. The month isn’t up. It’s too soon.’”

Family and friends had been searching for him, and Maria Eby hoped the public would help bring her husband home to their 13-year-old son.

“It breaks my heart to think of my son without his dad and knowing how much he loves his father,” she said.

Kevin Eby eft their Fort Mill home with the family car. It is a 2011 Nissan Versa with South Carolina tag 1123JS.
