The school bus driven by Judy Carter lost control and went into the woods and down a ditch after two cars collided with it.

“It was scary, now that for sure,” Carter said. “It was scary.”

Carter is recovering after breaking several bones and wants to get back behind the wheel to take students to and from school.

“I’m looking forward to getting back,” she told Channel 9. “I miss my babies. Those are my babies, and I miss them.”

Carter met Jared Canup for the first time since he ran to her bus and pried the doors open to get inside.

“I’ve never been that scared,” Carter said. “And then to have somebody there, right away, just amazed me.”

She added, “He was there for me, every bit of the way.”

Canup was at work when Carter arrived.

“A few people have called me a hero, but I don’t I don’t consider myself a hero,” Canup said. “I don’t have the training.”

However, Carter told Canup, “You’re my hero.”
