• Medical plans face unexpected fee

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Medical plans are facing an unexpected fee to help cover people with pre-existing conditions under President Barack Obama's health care overhaul.

The $63 per head fee will hit health plans serving about 190 million Americans, mostly workers and families.

The plan is payable starting in 2014.

The fee is temporary and will raise $25 billion over three years.
