• NC soldier, 29, killed in Afghanistan, officials say

    FORT BRAGG, N.C. - A North Carolina-based soldier died this weekend.

    Sgt. First Class Ryan Savard was killed by small arms fire on Saturday while on patrol in Afghanistan, officials said.

    The 29-year-old was based at Fort Bragg, where he lived with his wife.

    The Arizona native served one tour in Iraq and three tours in Afghanistan.

    He was assigned to the U.S. Army Special Operations Command.
