NORTH CAROLINA — Firefighters from all four of North Carolina's National Forests are sending equipment and dozens of people to help with the forest fires in California.
The firefighters say they are just returning the favor.
Firefighters from the west coast came to help battle wildfires in Tennessee and North Carolina in 2016.
Brian Browning from the Nantahala National Forest said they will help whenever and wherever they can.
"Whenever we have the opportunity and we can spare the resources and the need is there, then we will take the opportunity to do that for sure," Browning said.
North Carolina firefighters will spend two to three weeks in California.
