North Carolina A&T student-athlete shot, killed

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A North Carolina A&T student was killed overnight in Greensboro.

According to police, Jermane Clark was shot and killed off-campus just after 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Clark was a sophomore at the school and a linebacker on the football team.

Police are attempting to identity suspects.

The school released a statement Wednesday morning following Clark's death.

It read, "The Aggie family grieves the loss of our student, Jermane Clark. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family," said Chancellor Harold L. Martin Sr.
"This is a tragedy for our university and our football team," said A&T head football coach Rod Broadway.

The university's Office of Counseling Services is open for students impacted by the loss. Funeral arrangements will be forthcoming.

The University Police Department (UPD) received a report from the Greensboro Police Department of a shooting off campus earlier this morning. There was one victim who was shot and died at the scene. The victim has been identified as a North Carolina A&T State University student. The identity is being withheld at this time until the family has been notified.

UPD urges the campus community to exercise caution when engaged in activities off campus and to be conscious of your surroundings at all times.
