• 4 swimmers rescued from rough waters in North Carolina

    EMERALD ISLE, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say four swimmers have been rescued from rough waters at Emerald Isle.

    WTVD-TV reports that authorities received a call at about 2 p.m. Sunday for swimmers in distress. By the time they got there, all four had been pulled ashore by surfers.

    A 48-year-old man was in critical condition after the incident and was brought to a nearby hospital. Another man was also hospitalized.

    The current conditions of the swimmers were not immediately released.
