The House on Wednesday gave near unanimous approval to a Senate bill that sponsors have said finds $150 million for a new special disaster relief cash flow fund. The Senate approved it last month.
This money combined with an expected similar amount from the Federal Emergency Management Agency would be used for helping cover disaster-relief expenditures. Bill supporters say without the legislation, other NCDOT construction projects and maintenance would be delayed.
It's anticipated FEMA will reimburse the state for other disaster recovery repairs, which will help NCDOT return money loaned to the funds from state coffers no later than June 2021.
