Cannonball found in wall in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, N.C. — (AP) A bomb squad has removed a cannonball found in a wall at a building in Wilmington.

Police and firefighters were called to a home Monday afternoon after a report that a cannonball had been found. Fire Department Battalion Chief Jason Jordan said someone tearing down a small building found the cannonball.

Jordan said the cannonball could have been from the Civil War, since there was an armory in the neighborhood to provide Fort Fisher with ammunition.
