North Carolina woman charged with DWI in 4-year-old's death

PEMBROKE, N.C. — A woman has been arrested and charged with driving while impaired after the North Carolina Highway Patrol said she struck and killed a 4-year-old boy.

Troopers told local media outlets Wednesday that the boy was struck in a parking lot north of Pembroke in Robeson County.

Fifty-five-year-old Nancy Louise Ransom of Pembroke was also charged with felony death by vehicle after the boy was hit by a sports utility vehicle Tuesday afternoon.

The victim was Timothy Lynn Sampson of Pembroke.

Troopers say the boy was kneeling in front of the parked vehicle when it started forward and started to turn out of the parking lot, hitting the child. He was pronounced dead at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

It was not known if Ransom has an attorney yet.
