• North Carolina police shoot man accused in father's death

HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) - Police in North Carolina have released the name of a man who was shot and wounded by officers.

A police news release said 21-year-old Zachary C. Aikens fired at officers in High Point on Wednesday. The officers returned fire and Aikens was wounded.

Aikens was in stable condition at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

    The officers were not hurt.

Police think Aikens was responsible for his father's death earlier Wednesday. Fifty-year-old Gene Aikens was found shot to death after his son was wounded by officers. Police say Aikens' sister told them her brother said he had shot their father.

The four officers are on administrative leave while the State Bureau of Investigation reviews the shooting.
