LINCOLNTON, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina sheriff's office says four detention officers have been hurt in an attack by three inmates.

Authorities say the assault happened Saturday night at the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Detention Center. One injured officer suffered a concussion, another received stitches and the two others had various injuries to their face, head and arms.

The sheriff's office says the attack started after one inmate, 43-year-old Larry Wade Stanley, Jr., refused to go back to his cell. Investigators say two others, 29-year-old Dustin Logan Ensley and 24-year-old Thomas Utah McDonald, then started attacking the officers from behind.

Stanley is charged with seven counts including attempted murder and assault by strangulation. All three inmates are charged with four counts of assaulting a law enforcement officer and conspiracy.
